10 MINUTES TRAIN MARKET - TOWARD A NEW URBAN 'PERSE'
10 MINUTE TRAIN MARKET - Toward A New Urban ‘Perse’
40,000 people lived in Lagos around 1900. 24.4 million people will live in Lagos 2015. Lagos is growing much more quickly than any other cities; therefore it will never look like a conventional city. Also, a new idea of urbanization was being defined here. Oshodi market, the densest area in Lagos, had become a mixture of insufficient, impaired, and complex formal infrastructures and sufficient, flexible, and lightweight informal cultures. Even though this combination of the rigid and the free had not been efficient, Oshodi market had been already very visible and well self-organized. But now Oshodi market is being destroyed for the development of Oshodi area not considering its self-organization. We are strongly convinced that conventional urban development cannot be the solution for Oshodi market. We believe that this kinne travel with its compelling local ingredients – scale, density, congestion and self-organized urban function, which offers a unique opportunity to re-imagine a new kind of development for Oshodi areas. Finally, we will find a new urban ‘PER SE’ development here.
PROGRAM with its compelling ingredients – scale, density, congestion and self-organized transaction, which offers a unique opportunity to re-imagine a new kind of development for Oshodi areas.
